Bayan Muna party-list launched on Sunday a white ribbon campaign for victims of extrajudicial killings (EJK). During its launch, Bayan Muna chairperson Neri Colmenares urged the public to display white ribbons on their houses, vehicles, and even in their profile pictures in their social media accounts to show support to the families of EJK victims, who are seeking justice yet facing backlash on social media. “Maliit na bagay sa atin pero malaking bagay sa kaanak ng mga biktima. Dapat maramdaman nila na kasama tayo,” Colmenares said. (This is just a small gesture for us, but it's a big deal for them. They should feel they are not alone.) Colmenares added the EJK victims are the true victims of the war on drugs during the Duterte administration. He added that the white ribbons also symbolize opposition to the former president’s deadly war on drugs. “Hindi lang hustisya para sa biktima ng EJK noong Duterte administration. Hustisya lahat ng paglabag sa karapatan pantao,” Colmenares said. (This is not just seeking justice for EJK victims during the Duterte administration. This is seeking justice for all human rights violations.) Former president Rodrigo Duterte is currently detained in The Hague after he was arrested on March 11, 2025 in Manila. He is facing charges of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court for the extrajudicial killings during his administration's war on drugs. Based on government records, there were at least 6,000 drug suspects who were killed in anti-drug police operations. However, human rights groups have tallied that as masny as 30,000 persons died in relation to the drug war. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/GMA Integrated News
