Officials invited to the Senate probe into the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte will attend the hearing on April 10, Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero said Sunday. “Imo-move ang hearing sa April 10 kung saan dadalo ang mga opisyal na inimbitahan ni Senator Imee. Hindi ko lang alam kung sino specifically, pero hindi na sila hindi dadalo. May dadalo sa pagdinig ni Senator Imee sa April 10,” Escudero told Super Radyo DzBB. (The hearing will be moved on April 10, to which officials invited by Senator Imee Marcos will attend. I’m not sure who among them specifically, but they will attend. Someone from them will attend the April 10 hearing.) Based on the Senate website as of April 3, the Senate foreign relations committee hearing is set on April 8. Escudero said there is no need for a subpoena for the invited resource persons to attend the hearing. However, they may invoke their executive privilege when answering the questions in the hearing. “Pero ang ni-request na specifically hindi pwede mawala ay si [Police Major General Nicolas Torre III] na yung kinomit,” Escudero said. (However, General Torre’s attendance was requested, which was committed.) Senators earlier questioned Torre, director of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), over the manner in which former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested. In response, Torre said he arrested Duterte properly. Duterte was arrested on March 11 and surrendered to the International Criminal Court, with the plane carrying him to the Netherlands arriving the next day. He is detained in The Hague for charges of crimes against humanity for the extrajudicial killings during his administration's war on drugs. The Senate president earlier said he has referred to the Senate legal department the subpoenas requested by Marcos to be issued against Lieutenant General Arthur Cordura of the Philippine Air Force and Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon of the National Prosecution Service. The Senate foreign relations committee continued the investigation on Thursday without any Cabinet officials attending the hearing. Their absence came after Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin invoked executive privilege. — BM, GMA Integrated News
