After staying in the Netherlands for nearly a month, Vice President Sara Duterte has returned to the Philippines, having concluded her duties at The Hague in support of her detained father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. The Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed her arrival on Sunday at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at exactly 9:56 PM (Philippine Standard Time) via Emirates Airlines flight no. EK 334. “Following her recently concluded trip to The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands, which took place last 12 March 2025, the Vice President is expected to address any pertinent matters in the coming days,” the OVP said. “For further updates, please stay tuned for official statements from the Office of the Vice President,” it added. Earlier, VP Duterte announced that she had completed her work at The Hague, noting that her father’s defense team had been finalized and that all necessary documents had already been submitted. “My work is done here. What you saw earlier, the green envelope I delivered, that was the last document that the ICC (International Criminal Court) detention unit was asking from me,” the Vice President told reporters in The Hague. VP Sara also noted that former President Duterte already met with the newest lawyer that joined his legal defense team, which is led by British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman. Before flying back to Manila, the Vice President confirmed that her family had arranged a visitation schedule for the coming months. She said her youngest sister, Veronica, will remain in the Netherlands. VP Sara also mentioned that Duterte’s common-law wife, Honeylet Avancena, and Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte are expected to visit, following the approval of the latter’s visa.
